I know I just posted to day but I felt compelled to share...! :)
Ever just wake up in the morning on a natural high? The world just seems to make perfect sense all day?! Well this was my feeling this morning! Even though I did have a very productive day, I had little tidbits of time where I was able to sit and remember. I thought a lot about my childhood and how fortunate I was.
I grew up in a tight knit family, that's for sure. Even though my dad was in the military (recently retired...go Daddy!) we still spent a massive amount of time with family. I like to think i had a unique situation, you see my grandparents lived right next door to each other! They even shared the same little driveway in Brooklyn, NY. I remember those times like they were yesterday. Both of my grands owned a three story brownstone in the smack dab middle of Kings Highway. On my mom's side, you never knew which floor my grands relocated to when we came to visit, but one thing was always certain, we had fun on each floor! On my dad's side, my grands lived on the top floor, with my aunt and cousins on the second, and my uncle and his lady on the first.
I remember spending the mornings watching my Nana cook and put out fresh cantaloupe (my fave) and my Pop Pop reading the paper, while my parents sat around and chitchatted. My Nana had a HUGE picture window in the front of the house which she called her TV. We would sit there for hours and watch the world (Kings HWY)! I would always cal next door and make sure that someone was there to open the side door, because by that time it was always dark and yes I was scared!
For the next few hours I would hang out in the TV room with my Grandma Rose and she would boil me a good ole Nathans hot dog and we would watch Supermarket Sweep (which seemed to be her fave when I was there). I would then head back over to Nana's hoping she made her good ole smothered shrimp or baked ziti.
I have so many memories of that time but it seems to be just the little simple things that I cherish the most. Even though my grands are gone from this Earth , There will always be times like to day where I can sit and remember, laugh, cry and just think how blessed I am to have such wonderful memories!
